Texas Workforce Commission plans put new emphasis on paid internships

Posted: Updated:

The Texas Workforce Commission wants to make sure students can get paid internships that provide academic credit and help students get marketable skills while helping employers fill high demand jobs.

The TWC launched the Texas Internship Challenge to get it done.

It charges industry, employer and other partners to provide paid internships to both high school and college students, and in turn, make them more accessible.

Commissioner Mike Morath says it started with employers, education experts, industry specialists and community partners all calling for a more meaningful way to connect future workers with a career path.

There are already 15 internships listed on the challenge's website in Lubbock.
