Staying cool Friday, warm and dry weekend

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

The latest drought monitor shows Lubbock under an extreme drought. The longest stretch on record for days without measurable precipitation is 98 days, we are at 85 days currently. Dry pattern looks to continue the next 7-10 days.

It was around 30 degrees cooler this afternoon.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy and cold, low near 26. East wind 8-15mph.
FRIDAY: Mostly to partly cloudy at times. High near the same as it was this afternoon in the lower 50s. The Southerly wind will return 10-18mph.

WEEKEND: Get ready for the warm temperatures again with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s. The wind will kick up early Saturday about 15-25mph. A weak front will move across the South Plains cooling us a little on Sunday.

EXTENDED: Models are still questionable at the moment for timing and the strength of next weeks cold front. The wind will kick back up Monday and Tuesday with temperatures only dropping back to normal Wednesday.
