Fire burns 2 acres in south Lubbock County

Posted: Updated:

A fire out on County Road 1350 burned at least two acres in the south of Lubbock County.

It started as a structure fire and swept into the brush, threatening four other homes.

No one was home in the one the blaze flattened. Three VFDs and the forest service fought it for a few hours before it was fully extinguished.

When red flag warnings go out from the National Weather Service, the forest service strongly encourages you to listen.

"As far as mitigating the risk of loss of home or life or property, keeping your grass mowed and your vegetation near your home keep it down, away from your house," Tyler Brown with the Texas Forest Service said. "And just heeding those warnings when they do come out."

Today's high winds and dry heat spike the wildfire risk across vast swaths of the state. The Agri-life Extension's emergency management branch reports critical levels west of I-35.
