LPD chief: Shooting deaths of teens 'drug-related'

Posted: Updated:

The shooting deaths of two teenagers over the past two weekends were drug-related, LPD Chief Greg Stevens said in a specially-called media conference Monday.

Mackinley Malone, 16, was found shot and wounded near 33rd and Joliet last weekend.

He died at the hospital.

Chief Stevens says Malone was involved in a drug exchange. That's why the case has not been classified as a murder yet.

Investigators say 17-year-old Brendan McGuire was also involved in drug crimes.

The teen was dropped off at the hospital early Saturday morning by suspects driving a stolen car. He died.

Chief Stevens says McGuire was killed by a stolen gun and those in the vehicle did try to save him.

Stevens emphasized even though these teens were involved in illegal activity, they didn't deserve to die.
