The Lubbock County Medical Examiner's Office has released the manner and cause of death of a man found dead in a storm water drainage ditch last month.

Salvador Castro's death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner.

He died as a result of blunt force injuries in conjunction with acute alcohol intoxication, environmental exposure and dilated cardiomyopathy.

Contributing factors to the 52-year-old's death were clinically document hypertension, diabetes, chronic alcohol abuse, seizures and visual impairment.

He was discovered May 10 floating in a storm water drainage ditch near the I-27 northbound access road, just north of Pharr RV. This ditch has steep concrete embankments, and the Lubbock Fire and Rescue Dive Team assisted in recovering the body for the Medical Examiner’s Office.
