Lubbock Christian University was finally back in Rip Griffin Center to take on Dallas Baptist University in their first home contest since Oct. 13. The Lady Chaps did not disappoint, as they finished off the Patriots in straight-set fashion. Coming off of her fourth conference Setter of the Week award, Mallory Powell led the Lady Chaps with 43 assists and 14 digs for the double-double. With this victory, LCU is now 16-10 on the season and 9-3 in conference play.
How It Happened
Set One
After Lubbock Christian's Christiana Tavo batted down her first kill of the evening, the Patriots went on a four-point tear to take an early 4-1 lead. The Lady Chaps turned on the heat and answered with a scorching 12-2 run to regain the lead at 13-6. Despite a late DBU run that cut the LCU lead to 16-12, the gap proved to be too much. Emily Hanaway had five kills in the set including the final point that gave LCU a 25-18 set one victory.
Set Two
DBU scored three straight points at the top of the second set, before a kill by LCU's Lauren Zoller cut DBU's lead to 3-1. It was not until a kill by Tavo that Lubbock Christian took their first lead of the set. DBU immediately answered with back-to-back points to retake the lead at 10-9. A 5-2 streak let the Lady Chaps jump back on top 14-12. The Patriots would not give up and scored three consecutive points to take a 15-14 advantage. LCU finally got in a rhythm and scored the final eight points to finish the set 25-19.
Set Three
Lubbock Christian put their foot on the gas pedal and jumped to an early 8-3 lead to open the final set. DBU went on a 9-5 scoring advantage midway through the set and cut the LCU lead to 19-16, but LCU responded from a timeout and scored six of the last seven points of the match to win the third set 25-17.
