A Yoakum county district judge sentenced 41-year-old Mario Romero to 30 years in prison on a murder charge.
Romero's 29-year-old wife Veronica was found dead in the family's home.
Romero was returned to the South Plains in 2015, after reportedly fleeing to Mexico with his 3-year-old son, Mitchell.
Prosecutors said the little boy was originally part of a negotiation between Romero and federal officials, but the child died in a car wreck on the way to the exchange.
Romero was later arrested by Mexican police then extradited back to the U.S.
