American voters are fed up with presidential election
LUBBOCK, Texas -
This election season one of the most unique. Many voters tell us they're fed up and just want it to be over. One Lubbock resident interviewed said the election made her sad to be American.
A Pew Research Center study shows 59 percent of American adults surveyed are tired of the amount election coverage and among those who aren't even following the election very closely the number is even larger.
"The tone of it is such that no only is it more negative than we've ever seen with the name calling but it's actually upset members of Donald Trump's own party," said Dennis Patterson, a political science department chair at Texas Tech.
Patterson said this election is like no other.
"This is unprecedented, the number of people that have come out and said they're not supporting their own," Patterson explained.
While Pew reports Americans are worn out by the coverage, that doesn't mean they've lost interest. One Lubbock resident said she sees entertainment value in this election.
"Donald Trump supporters are certainly excited about this and energized about it," Patterson said. "There's no doubt about that."
