SAN ANTONIO, Texas (May 5, 2016) – Three Lubbock Christian University errors and clutch hitting by Texas Woman's downed Lady Chap softball 12-4 in five innings during the opening game of the South Central Regional Tournament at The Softball Stadium inside The Park at St. Mary's Thursday in San Antonio.
Lubbock Christian (45-14) had three errors in the first two innings, which led to an early deficit. Sydney Beuthien had a two-run bomb in the second inning that tied the game up but the Lady Chaps could only muster two more runs in the contest. Texas Woman's (33-22) scored another 10 runs after LCU tied the game scoring seven in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lubbock Christian managed only three hits in the game with Ashton Bell and Molly Davison getting the other two hits. The final two runs plated by LCU were both off of bases-loaded walks.
IN THE CIRCLE
Kelsey Hoppel got the start in the circle for the LCU and threw the first three innings allowing five runs off of four hits while striking out two Pioneers to suffer her first loss of the year. Katera Eltsosie came in to pitch the final inning allowing and seven runs off of six hits in relief. Halley Dixon started for TWU going three and two-thirds innings allowing four runs off of three hits and walking three Lady Chaps to earn her ninth victory of the season. Tori Bice threw the last inning and a third while not giving up a hit to notch her second save of 2016.
The loss moves the Lady Chaps into the losers' bracket of the South Central Regional Tournament. LCU's next game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. tomorrow against the loser of the St. Mary's and Angelo State contest. Go to www.lcuchaps.com for all links to watch and listen to the tournament games.
