Eppler's top 10 movies of 2015: part 1

"Steve Jobs" "Steve Jobs"

We're counting down the top ten movies of 2015. Watch the video for the report with clips from the movies.

10. "The Revenant"
Director Alenjandro G. Inaritu follows up his Oscar win for "Birdman" with an even more impressive effort - immersing us in a brutal wilderness survival story - with long takes on closeups that dare you to look away. Leonardo DiCaprio is excellent as always in an admirably physical performance.

9. "Brooklyn"
A beautiful love story - not just about romantic love, but about falling in love with the American experience. Saoirse Ronan is sublime as an Irish woman who comes to the U.S. in the 1950s falls in love, but still feels the pull of home.

8. "Cinderella"
A classic fairy tale love story done to perfection. Disney's effort to turn its animated classics into live action movies should be annoying, but in the hands of a master of the classics - Kenneth Branagh - it's an absolute delight.

7. "Steve Jobs"
Don't believe the bad buzz from its box office failure. This is a scorching, emotional portrait of a troubled genius. Michael Fassbender and Kate Winslet are wonderful, Aaron Sorkin's script insightful, and Danny Boyle's direction is borderline groundbreaking.

6. "Spotlight"
Maybe the most important movie of the year, and one of the best films ever about journalism. It tells the true story of the Boston Globe investigation that uncovered rampant abuse in the Catholic church and the filmmakers handle a difficult subject with respect, but without pulling any punches. You also won't find a better ensemble cast from last year.

Check back tomorrow for the top five.
